Energy healing. Crystals. Oracles. Meditation. Feng Shui. These are powerful pathways that lead to one destination… returning home to your True Self and becoming one with Source.
I’ve found that when we are fully connected to our True Self, we are fully connected to Source and we can enter into a state of flow where the words pour out of us and onto the page like a river flowing into the sea.
But if you’re like most people you probably think that attempting to intentionally enter into a state of flow is like trying to capture lightning in a bottle — it’s just never gonna happen, right?
Actually, that’s not true!
I’ve found that the flow state is available to all of us when we know how to anchor into the right “Energetic Flowpath.” The first thing to know is there are 3 major Energetic Flowpaths that happen spontaneously when you write — Projection, Presence, and Performance. Let’s explore each of them, one by one.
Energetic Flowpath #1 Projection
Projecting happens when you take what you’re feeling in-the-moment and put it into words. This occurs unconsciously. Here’s what I mean… maybe you’re feeling annoyed that you spilled coffee on your brand new top or you’re feeling blue that a client ended up not signing on for your coaching package. So, when you sit down to write your sales page, blog post, or the speech you’ve been asked to give at your best friend’s wedding, that annoyance or disappointment you feel is unconsciously projected into the act of writing and the words that you choose to put on the page.
Symptoms that you are in Projection Mode: The state of creative flow eludes you. You’ll experience lots of stops and starts. You may suffer from the dreaded “blank page syndrome” where you stare at the page and the page stares right back at you!
Energetic Flowpath #2 Performance
Performance is about “playing pretend.” You’re pretending to feel something you don’t really feel. You want to write that sales page for your business or something meaningful in your favorite nephew’s birthday card but you’re not feeling it in your heart. But you think you have to get it done so you FORCE yourself to write anyway. The end result is inauthentic and fails to convey your message. Important to note: sometimes you are in performance mode but only temporarily. This means you might feel like you need to force yourself to create but after about 5 to 10 minutes, you actually start to feel good and get into the flow of writing or creating (see Energetic Flowpath #3 below :-))
Symptoms that you are in Performance Mode: You feel annoyed, frustrated, and maybe even a little angry that you have to sit and write or create the thing. You don’t want to do it. You procrastinate. You give yourself any excuse to avoid the task. You sit down to write or create and even after 20 minutes, you STILL want to get away and do something – anything – else!
Energetic Flowpath #3 Presence
This is the energetic space that you want to step into every time you write. When you are on this Flowpath you feel excited and enthusiastic about writing. You can easily tune into the heart and essence of your message and the energy of your readers or your audience to create content that connects with them on an emotional level. You’ve probably experienced this before – it’s those times when you feel really good and the words flow like magic. This is the state you are in when you are channeling what I like to call the Pure Energy of Creation.
Symptoms that you are in Performance Mode: You are present and engaged in your body. You are conscious of your calm, centered inner energy. You understand that you want to connect and create a true emotional bond with your readers or your audience and you are ready to get the words out. You feel happy, enthusiastic, and even excited about the creative work ahead of you.
The most powerful way to get into Presence Mode is to get grounded. Use any of the methods you know to do this. My personal favorite is the 1 Healing Breath practice (if this is the first you’re hearing about it you can check it out here). I also love the “Roots of the Tree” method – imagining roots growing from the bottoms of my feet and reaching into the heart center of Mother Earth.
Something to keep in mind…
Getting into Presence doesn’t always work, instantly. When your energy is way off-center, you may need to take a bit of time to do something physical – run, dance, do jumping jacks – before you are ready to ground and then sit down and write or create.
So here’s my invitation to you…
The next time you’re about to write a blog post or create content for your online course or write a speech or script, tune into yourself, take your awareness within and ask yourself if you’re embodying Projection, Performance, or Presence. Then do what you need to do to get back in Presence. I promise you’ll be delighted at how writing even the most complex or complicated piece of content can become easy, joyful — and even fun — when you do 🙂
