If you were a child of the ‘80s or if you love classic movies, you’re probably familiar with Wall Street.
The movie features a heartless, ruthless and incredibly unscrupulous character — businessman and investor Gordon Gecko, played brilliantly by Michael Dougles (he won an Academy Award for Best Actor for the role).
In a scene where he’s convincing a roomful of shareholders to accept a poisonous, hostile takeover of their company, Gordon Gecko says something that sent shockwaves through audiences at that time and it still does.
He says: Greed is good.
Just typing those words makes my skin crawl!
When I first watched that movie, I remember screaming on the inside…
“You’re wrong Michale Douglas!!! You’re so wrong (I have a habit of addressing movie characters by the actor’s full name). Greed is BAD. Bad, bad, baaaddd!
It’s been decades since that movie came out and I’ll go ahead and say that greed is STILL — and always will be — bad. Bad bad baaadddd!
And yet, I find myself about to say something that might be just as shocking or even more shocking than Gordon Gecko aka Michael Douglas’ declaration.
BUT it’s something we need to hear and embrace. Ready for it? Here goes…
Money is good.
How did that feel? Awful? Like a bomb just went off on your screen? Like you want to reach through the ether and shake me until I come to my senses?
Okay, before you do that maybe I’ll update my declaration a little bit and get super specific.
Money can be good. Really, REALLY good!
Lots of folks have lots of opinions about money and it’s been compared to a HUGE variety of things.
Money is energy. Money is power. Money can’t buy happiness. Money is the root of all evil.
I’m going to add my 2 cents to the list — money is a mirror.
It’s a reflection of the person who holds it, works with it, earns it, receives it, gives it, shares it, hoards it or whatever else they choose to do with it. Why?
Because money does what you tell it to do.
Money doesn’t think for itself. It doesn’t make decisions. It doesn’t have a heart or a mind.
Money is ultimately your helper, your attendant, your assistant.
It’s not your manager, your employer or your boss
And you need to know this more than anyone else because now with all that’s going on in the world, with all of the changes, the turbulence and the uncertainty…
Now more than ever money needs to flow into the hands of those who will use it wisely, lovingly, respectfully, thoughtfully and most of all… intentionally.
And that means you, me, all of us Spiritual Rebel Entrepreneurs (in case you’re going, “What in the world is a Spiritual Rebel Entrepreneur?” I wrote about it here)
The truth is money can protect and provide. Money can empower and elevate.
Money builds schools. Money feeds people. Money can change the world, money can even save the world. But only if it’s in the hands of those who want to do those things.
So here’s an invitation…
Let’s begin healing our relationship with money so you can start to magnetize and manifest money in our business (and life) in ways that feel meaningful, purposeful and in line with our values.
The good news is there are loads of effective ways to do this.
You could work with a healer or energy practitioner to connect with the energy of money and to open up to a flow of wealth and abundance…
You could read smart, spiritual books about money…
You could look into investing and growing your wealth…
You could come up with ideas for increasing your business income…
But this invitation is about doing the thing that must be done before we dive into all of those other things.
I’m talking about creating a Money Intention Statement.
As the late great Dr. Wayne Dyer said, “The power of intention is the power to manifest, to create, to live a life of unlimited abundance…” and that’s something we definitely want!
So if you’re game, here’s how you can build out a powerful intention around money and abundance.
Step One
Choose a beautiful, quiet space either in your home or out in nature. Set aside 10 to 20 minutes.
Step Two
Take 1 Healing Breath of Ease (you can find out more about the 1 Healing Breath practice here). This will signal to your heart and mind that you’re ready to relax, get centered and focus. It will also help connect you to your Highest Self, your intuition and the eternal wisdom of your body.
Step Three
Place one or both hands over your heart and ask yourself the following questions. You can journal your answers or simply reflect on them (quick note: there are no right or wrong answers)
Reflection Questions:
What will creating and receiving an unlimited flow of money do for me?
What will creating and receiving an unlimited flow of money do for my family and loved ones?
What can I do for my community, and the world when I create and receive an unlimited flow of money?
What will my life look like when I’m creating and receiving an unlimited flow of money?
Step Four
Now that you have some clarity around what money can do for you and how money could act as a change agent in your hands, it’s time to move on to building your Money Intention Statement. It can be as long or as short as you want it to be. Simply finish the following sentence:
Money Intention Statement
It’s safe and empowering for me to receive unlimited money and abundance because…
When you’re done building out your Money Intention Statement, I recommend that you consistently activate it by giving it your attention and energy.
You can easily do this by reading it out or saying it out loud, a couple of times a day.
Take your time with this process. It might seem simple but it’s not!
Over the days and weeks after you do this, stay open to surprising realizations and recognition about your relationship with money and all that could be blocking an easy, accessible unlimited flow.
The deeper you’re willing to explore and be honest with yourself in this process, the more you can look forward to creating a powerful Money Intention that can support you in attracting the level of wealth and abundance…
That can help you create the changes you want to see in your life and in the world.
