Some years ago, I was having one of those “memorable” days 🥴 You know the kind where everything seems to go sideways? 

The alarm fails to go off (and now you’re running SUPER late), the brand new top you planned to wear has a mysterious stain you didn’t notice before, your toaster’s on a mission to burn everything….

And when you finally sit down to open your email, you find an urgent message from an important client asking to move up your meeting by two hours (eek!). 

I’m happy to say I somehow made it through that crazy day in one piece. Afterwards, feeling like I needed a bit of TLC, I reached out to a friend.

I told her I’d had a bad day but before I could go further, she interrupted me

Leaning in and looking a little nervous, she whispered “Careful! The Universe is listening to every word.  Always say you’re having a good day when you’re having a bad day, and say you’re having a GREAT day when it’s a good day!

Now, I know she meant well but I didn’t have the heart to tell her the Universe wasn’t going to be fooled simply because I was careful about switching from “bad day” to “good day” and “good day” to “great day!”

I shared  this little story in my book, Manifest Anything You Want, and I call this manifesting approach “Militant Manifesting” where:

😬We’re expected to think, feel and just be positive 24/7

😬We’re supposed to watch every single word that comes out of our mouths

😬We get the message that “slip-ups” in what we say or feel can totally derail our manifesting journey

But here’s the thing: trying to be Positively Perfect all-the-time just sets us up to feel like we’ve failed when we inevitably have a not-so-shiny moment.

It triggers anxiety, doubt and stress, which cause so many (maybe even ALL) well-known manifesting processes to fail.

So here’s what I’ve learned (and I’m still learning!):

It’s okay to feel what you feel

The Universe is not a stern teacher with a red pen, marking down every so-called negative word we say or troubling emotion we experience.

And just like we can’t hide our true feelings from ourselves, we can’t hide them from the Universe either.

A much more powerful and effective way to level up your manifesting skills is to:

🩷Get real with your feelings

💚Work with experienced teachers, coaches and/or therapists to process difficult emotions

🩵Make it a priority to identify and tune into real happiness (not the forced, “grin and bear it” kind)

Masterful manifesting isn’t about “smiling through heartache” or pretending your world is all sunshine and rainbows. 

It’s about how you show up for yourself on the inside. 

When you can accept that all emotions are valid – yes, including the messy, “ugly” ones – that’s when the magic happens ✨
