That’s a popular expression but “words can never hurt me” simply isn’t true for most of us. Words have the power to trigger jealousy, uncertainty, frustration or rage.
Some words even feel like a physical blow.
And of course there are also words that energize and inspire us. Words that light a fire of empowerment, transformation and hope. Words that feel like a loving embrace.
The truth is, words can harm and they can heal because words have power…
Words have energy.
You have the power to touch hearts, change minds, transform lives, and motivate action when you express yourself from your core signature energy… I call it the Energy of Expression or EE.
Your EE begins with what you feel, what you believe, what you stand for, what you’re willing to fight for BUT your EE isn’t just what’s unseen.
It also includes what is seen and heard – how you present yourself in person and on video. It’s in your voice and in your writing.
Think of your EE as a beacon of light – a clarion call – that can only be seen and heard by those who are right for you, those who are meant to connect with you, those you are meant to serve and who will benefit the most from your services or offers.
So how do you identify your EE and how do you use your EE in your speech or in your writing or copy?
Let’s begin with the first part of that question… how to identify your EE. If you’ve taken the Intuitive Spiritual Expression quiz, you already have an idea of what your base EE is (if you haven’t taken the quiz, now’s a good time to do that. Just click here.).
There are 6 types of EEs corresponding to each of the Intuitive Spiritual Archetypes. If you’re a:
Divine Nurturer your EE is Creative & Enigmatic
Earth Angel, your EE is Insightful & Reflective
Incarnated Goddess, your EE is Passionate & Driven
Cosmic Spirit, your EE is Enthusiastic & Inspired
Sacred Seeker, your EE is Thoughtful & Perceptive
Spiritual Warrior, your EE is Confident & Direct
Now on to the next element… how do you use your EE in your speech or in your writing? How do you channel your EE out into the world with your words?
The simplest way to channel your EE is by bringing your awareness to the process of expression.
Here’s how that works…
When you’re about to write content or copy for your business or when you’re about to get on stage or get in front of the camera — or even just before you have an important conversation with your child or partner — get quiet for a moment and tune into your inner world.
Then ask yourself, “What am I feeling right now?” So much of what we say and do arises from what we’re feeling in the moment so if you want to speak or write from your EE, it’s important to first become aware of your inner state and then purposefully and consciously tune into your EE before you say or write a word.
So, if you’re an Incarnated Goddess and your EE is Passionate & Driven, let yourself feel into those emotions and then write or speak from that space.
Expressing yourself from your EE allows you to connect with your TRUE self for deep integrity in everything you do.
If you don’t, your audience, viewers, or readers will instantly detect incongruence and misalignment in what you say and do and you’ll probably lose them forever.
Have you ever come across a coach, designer or maybe a transformational speaker whose blog posts and content come off bold and sassy but you meet them or get on a call with them and they’re like a shy wallflower and you can barely hear a word they say?!
Or you might have experienced the opposite…
They seem quiet, sensitive or reflective in their writing but then you meet them in person and they’re super assertive and outspoken!
All sorts of bad stuff can happen when you communicate from an energy that is NOT yours.
You’ll attract clients, partnerships, opportunities and experiences that are not right for you, that are not congruent with your values and that will most likely leave you feeling frustrated and stressed because you are energetically matching up to people and situations that are not aligned with who you truly are…
And that’s definitely NOT what we want!
So, the next time you’re about to write something for your business or start an important conversation or speech, I want you to consciously tune into your EE and take action from that space.
When you do that, you’ll find yourself co-creating exactly what you want — from calling in the love of your life to attracting the right clients who will love you and everything you have to offer — with a LOT less effort and a lot more flow 🙂
Hi Shantini – I know exactly what you mean. I had an interesting experience a few weeks ago where I decided to treat myself to my annual massage with my birthday money. I found someone who had a great website, very professional, mature and charged almost the same as I do (I am a very experienced energy/body worker).
All communications were done in writing – had I heard her voice, I wouldn’t have booked.
So I arrived, the room was too cool, despite it a hot day, she used rancid oil and her technique was dreadful. I was hugely disappointed and couldn’t understand why I’d not picked up her true vibes; I can only surmise that I had picked up her site designers energy rather than hers. Lesson learned!
So sorry you had a disappointing experience Angela dear … I hope you went ahead and treated yourself to another massage to make up for that one! Thank you so much for sharing your story and you’re absolutely right…you probably picked up someone else’s vibe off her website. It’s a perfect example of why we must tune in and connect with our EE in our offers, services and everything else we do. It creates flow, positive energy, good vibes… and happy clients 🙂
