When you shine the light of awareness on your beliefs around writing, you may be surprised at how bizarre some of them are (one of my early beliefs — I’m not a good writer unless I complete every piece of writing at least a week before the agreed deadline. I know, right? Totally bizarre!)

You will also learn that a lot of your disempowering beliefs about writing are not facts but based on a clouded, inaccurate perspective you have of yourself.

As an Intuitive Writer and Copywriter I’ve found that for most people, it’s not the act of writing that gets to them but the belief that they simply can’t write.

Maybe they’re thinking of that super strict teacher at school — Mr./Mrs/Ms. “So-and-So” — who said they can’t write to save their lives.

It could be that they feel no one’s gonna care about what they have to say.

Or they feel they simply can’t express themselves in writing.

These beliefs tend to come bubbling up to the surface the minute they sit down to write, creating an immense amount of inner resistance that keeps them from experiencing the true joy of writing powerfully and effectively.

If any of that sounds (painfully!) familiar, here’s my invitation to you…

It’s time to take your power back as the smart Spiritual Rebel Entrepreneur that you are.

It’s time to give the right energy to your words and to the act of writing those words.

(And it’s definitely time to send those words out into the world feeling relaxed and yes – pretty darn pleased with yourself!)

One of the best ways to do this is to release disempowering beliefs around writing.

There are magical, energy-based ways to do this and I’ll go into that another time but here’s a simple, yet highly effective method you can start to use right now.

First, list your beliefs around why you believe you can’t write or you don’t like to write. Then, apply the 2-step method:

Step #1 Uncover the “why” behind each disempowering belief around writing

Step# 2 Identify if this “why” is a truth or a fact

Here’s how that works…

Let’s imagine one of your disempowering beliefs around writing is simply “I don’t like to write”

In Step# 1 – Ask yourself why and note what arises for you. You can come up with as many answers as you want but for our purposes here, let’s go with just one answer.

So when you work with Step #1 it might go something like this:

I don’t like to write. Why? Because I’m a terrible writer.

Now you’re ready to move on to Step #2 – Is your “why” a truth or a fact?

The definition of a truth is something that is true for you. It arises through the lens of your life experience and beliefs.

A fact is universal. It’s something that cannot be denied. It’s evidence-based.

Truth: Blue is a calming color

Fact: Blue is a color

So how does this apply here? Let’s zoom in on the “why” in our example…

Reflect on whether “I’m a terrible writer” is a truth or an indisputable fact. Don’t be afraid to dive deep. Look at that “why” from every angle you can think of and approach it with fresh eyes and an open heart.

Are you really a terrible writer or are you simply being totally unfair to yourself?

Are you judging your writing chops against someone who’s had thousands of hours of practice? Maybe it’s someone you admire – like Stephen King or Delia Owens?

Now it could be that you’re not as good a writer as you want to be and you may need to polish or improve your work, with some support from a writing coach.

You might need to read articles and books on writing so you can get better at it.

None of that means you’re a terrible writer!

It just means you need to focus on it a little more and that’s totally okay (even prize-winning authors make it a point to keep improving!)

Go ahead and try the 2-step method on as many writing beliefs as you can.

You’ll find that when you learn to separate truth from fact, you’ll begin to unravel disempowering beliefs around writing and being a writer.

You’ll gain deep clarity on your true abilities as a writer — where you need to improve, how much help you need, when you need to hire a copywriter, and when not to (knowing the difference could save you a ton!) and much more.

The 2-step method won’t transform you into a world-class wordsmith overnight and it might not help you fall in love with writing – at least not right away!

But what it can do for you right now is help to shift your perspective so you can start to release debilitating resistance around writing your social media posts, blog posts, emails, and everything else you need to do so you can get to that fabulous, happy place we all want to get to…

The place where you’re a Spiritual Rebel Entrepreneur who enjoys ongoing success, satisfaction, and sales when you learn to write without limiting beliefs and without restriction…

When you finally become the person you’ve (secretly) always wanted to be…

Someone who writes powerfully, beautifully, gracefully, effectively…

Someone who loves to write 😃

Wishing you love, light & sparkly things,
