As an intuitive writer and copywriter, I tune into my clients’ writing voice and style and I channel their energy into words.
It’s how I create blog posts and sales content that sounds like it was written by them (otherwise everything I write will seem like it was written by me which totally defeats the purpose!)
So here’s what I’ve found to be 100% true…
There is one person who can do a better job than I can. It’s someone the client never truly considers or even if she does, she believes this person isn’t up for the job.
I’m talking about the client herself!
The truth is we can all write and with a little bit of time, patience and practice we can write well (way beyond what we think we’re capable of).
So if you’re feeling like you’re a terrible writer or that you just can’t get the words out every time you sit down to write, I’m going to tell you why.
It’s because you’re second guessing yourself.
You’re questioning your voice and your style. Somewhere deep inside, you believe the words you choose, the message you’re trying to convey isn’t good enough or clear enough or fancy enough.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again…
The best writer — and if you’re an entrepreneur the best copywriter — in the world is YOU.
Hands down. No question.
Let’s imagine you’re about to write a social media post. You have a topic but you’re feeling stuck. You’re wondering what to write. How you’re going to string those sentences together.
Here’s what I want you to know…
The ideas and the words that go with that idea or topic you have in mind, are already inside you ( if they weren’t, you wouldn’t have come up with it in the first place).
So the real reason you’re stuck?
You’re thinking about what people will feel or do and how they’re going to react when they read your words.
When you start to focus on what they’re going to do, you’re shifting focus away from yourself.
You’re not writing from your heart and allowing the words to flow and it’s because of a bunch of core fears we all have – fear of judgement and criticism — and maybe the worst one of all — fear of rejection.
What if people don’t like what I write?
It’s one of the most terrifying questions a writer can have and here’s the answer…
If they don’t like what you write it’s because they’re not your ideal audience.
That’s the wondrous thing about writing from the heart.
When you start to do it, you’ll naturally attract the readers, customers and clients, that are right for YOU.
Everyone else — the ones who don’t get you, the ones who are not the right fit for you and your gifts — will fall away.
Sometimes they disappear quietly… they’ll unsubscribe or simply scroll past your post.
Sometimes they’ll leave a comment or feedback that’s less than fun for you.
But guess what?
In a day or two, they’ll forget all about you.
So here’s my question for you…
Isn’t it tragic that we allow our words and our creative expression to be guided, dictated and controlled by people who will forget all about us in a few days or hours or even minutes?
So write from your heart, dear friend.
If you think you need to polish your grammar or create better flow in your writing, go ahead and do that later
But start with your heart.
Say what you want to say. What you need to say. Forget about everyone else. Forget about what they’ll say or what they’ll think.
When you write from your heart, when you write with passion, with purpose, with trust, and vulnerability…
The right people will love you and your words. The right people will be drawn to you. The right people will benefit from your message and your gifts.
And isn’t that the only real reason to write at all?
